From the size of my body to the sound of my voice to the amount of stuff I had, being little and non-burdensome was the goal.
I specifically remember multiple times where I would stay at a friends house or at my fiance's house and after I left they would say how they didn't even know I was there because I never made a mess and was as quiet as a mouse.
Of course this made me feel good inside knowing that I went unseen. I was small enough that people didn't even notice me. At the time I chalked this up to a great accomplishment.
However, now I realize that staying small and invisible is no way to live and is by no means an accomplishment.
These days with the media the way that it is, it makes us believe that we have to be less of everything in order to be the best at everything. But this is just a bunch of crock!
The media has no interest in our well being, all they want is our money, so their ads make us think we need to have less fat, less cellulite, less curves, less freckles, less dark spots, etc. and by the time we get rid of all this, what is left of us? Nothing!
Taking up space is our birthright. No one can make us feel like we are unworthy of that.
Today, I have no problem going somewhere and taking up space. I'm still respectful and organized but I do make messes and I do make it known that I am there.
Because, let's be honest, being invisible is NOT fun.
So today. instead of being small and trying to stay out of everyone's way, maybe be more open and take up your space.
Own your body, own your belongings. This world is yours, make it known that you are here.
You are worth more than what the media tells you to be.
You are worthy to be more than invisible.
